Other than commercial, investment, construction, corporate and sports, arbitration may revolve around a number of different fields of law.

IP/IT arbitration has sparked the emergence of specialized arbitral institutions such as the WIPO, and special arbitral rules such as the ones offered by the DIA and the HKIAC.

Another example are arbitrations revolving around disputes in the energy sector. While these disputes may be primarily contractual (e.g. sale and purchase of energy or operator agreements), they may also be connected to foreign investment and therefore be more appropriately solved through investment arbitration (e.g. claims arising out of BITs or the Energy Charter Treaty against States for expropriation or nationalisation of energy plants).
